The Great Repression

The Great Repression

Shannon Cuthrell’s The Great Repression is a collection of poems and illustrations from a period of bipolar disorder in the author’s life. The book is beautifully condensed into jagged, elliptical, vivid and often funny images, accompanied by illustrations from her brother Bradford Cuthrell. Her work is infused with richly developed scenes that include cocktail-party demons, Pink Floyd references, bass-drum fingertips and more. The Great Repression appeals to all senses and is the story of repression unrepressed.
